Six months imprisonment for practising untouchability
Jaipur, Apr 18 (UNI) A special SC/ST court in Sirohi district has sentenced a woman to six months imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000 for ''practising untouchability'' at a work site of the National Rural Employment gurantee Scheme (NREGS).
The Special judge Bhanwarilal Sharma pronounced six months simple imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1000 to Manu Rebari for using expletives degrading the caste of her fellow worker Rajaram Meghwal.
The court pronounced the judgement on a complaint in this regard filed at the Sirohi police station by Dalit activist Shanker Meghwal.
The court after extensive hearing found that Manu had hurled abuses at Rangaram at Vangi Bawasi work site in Khambal village for touching a 'maduka'(pitcher) exclusively for upper caste labourers.
The court observed that though the charges against Manu have been proved beyond any doubt the court handed out minimum punishment under the SC/ST Act 1989 considering the rural background of the accused.
