Mizoram police arrest suspect killers of Lalmalsawma
Aizawl, Apr 18 (UNI) Mizoram police have arrested main suspects of the murder of Hmar writer Isaac Lalmalsawma, who was killed here last year.
Police sources today confirmed that four persons have been arrested for their involvement in the murder of Isaac Lalmalsawma, and are currently in their custody.
The arrest came shortly after the Mizoram police's statement that the Manipur-based underground group HPC(D) were the main suspects in the murder of the Hmar writer .
Son of a Manipur University professor, Isaac Lalmalsawma was a prominent writer among the Hmar community. His outspokenness and severe criticism against injustice was believed to be the reason behind the murder.
On April 14, 2006, Lalmalsawma flew from Imphal to guide technical experts from Delhi, who were to inspect his newly-established Zoram Carbon, a carbon industry at Bairabi in Mizoram. On the night of April 18, he was taken somewhere by an unidentified Hmar-speaking man from his friend's house at Ramhlun Venglai in Aizawl.
On April 20, his body was recovered from near Beraw Tlang under Bawngkawn police station. He had apparently been clubbed to death after being blindfolded, police said.
