Patna, Apr 18 (UNI) To provide quality treatment to poor patients in the state, the Bihar government has decided to upgrade its Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (IGIMS) here as super-speciality hospital.

State Health Minister Chandra Mohan Rai said here today that an action plan would be prepared soon to equip all its departments with latest technologies in this regard.

'' The present annual grant of Rs three crore to IGIMS was insufficient,'' he said adding that Sanjay Gandhi Medical Institute in Lucknow gets Rs 100 crores annually.

Mr Rai also rejected the notion that institutes in health sector should operate with its own resources saying that it was not possible in a public welfare state.

The problem of fund crunch affected the quality treatment of patients in the hospital, he said adding that funds would be increased annually.

Mr Rai said the neurology department of IGIMS had been equipped with latest medical gadgets along with video EEG, nerve conduction EMG, evoked potential, signal prone EMG and other sophisticated tests would be conducted to provide quality treatment to the patients.
