Health, food fest kicks off in Udupi
Udupi, Karnataka, Apr 18 (UNI) Over 6,000 people from different parts of the district underwent different health check ups on the first day of the three-day district level 'Suvarna Arogya Mattu Ahaara Mela' (Health and Food fest), here today.
Inaugurating the mela, Karnataka Medical Education and district incharge Minister Dr V S Acharya expressed concern that ''we have failed to reach the expected level in public healthcare aspect, when compared to other countries. There is also shortage of qualified experts on public health.'' He said the Government had contemplated to organise a training programme on public health in association with NIMHANS, Bangalore.
Local MLA amd Mela Reception Committee Chairman K Raghupathy Bhat said about 15,000 people were expected to be benefitted from the health mela. The Government had sanctioned Rs 1.20 lakh, besides providing Rs two lakh worth free medicines for the event, he added.
