First Bird Migration Study centre at Point Calimere
Nagapattinam, Apr 18 (UNI) The Foundation for the first Bird Migration Study Centre (BMSC) of the Bombay Natural History Society (BBHS) in the country, was laid at Point Calimere in Nagapattinam district of Tamil Nadu.
Laying the foundation stone at a function at Point Calimere last evening, BNHS Vice-president Pheroza Godrej said the centre would start functioning by early next year as part of the 125th year celebrations of the BNHS.
The centre would teach students as well as public on various aspects of bird migration, environmental protection, chirping of birds and conduct special training programmes for children and students for protecting the precious planet.
Mrs Pheroza said BNHS was planning to provide special training to Veterinary doctors for handling wild birds at Chilka Lake and in Nandheer Madhumeshwar Bird Sanctuary near Nashik.
Dr S Balachandran, scientist BNHS, welcoming the gathering said the centre was being set up on a 2.5 acre site at Point Calimere at a cost of Rs 20 lakh.
