Cong Councillors file nominations for Stg Committee in 3 zones

New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) The Congress and its allies are all set to make their presence felt in the MCD Standing Committee as well as Ward Committees with its nominees expected to emerge victorious in three out of 12 zones in Delhi.

Congress Councillors filed nominations from three zones for the post of members of the Standing Committee, which includes 12 members, one from each zone.

While Congress councillor Mr Hem Chand Goel has filed his nomination from the Central zone, Mr Krishan Murari Jatav is the only one in the fray from City zone and Mr Rajveer Singh for the post from rural Nazafgarh zone.

Sources in the MCD said, with the Congress having reached an arrangement with the NCP and the BSP in Central zone, wherein it is backing the BSP candidature for the posts of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the Ward Committee, its nominees from the zone for the Standing Committee and the nominees of its allies for Chairman and Deputy Chairman of the ward committees are expected to win from the zone.

The Congress, NCP and BSP together have 15 seats in the MCD House from Central zone against 13 of the BJP.

Also, a similar arrangement with the BSP, independents and the INLD in Nazafgarh will ensure the victory of the Congress nominee from the zone.

According to the arrangement, the Congress is supporting an independent, Rajpal for the post of Chairman of the Ward Committee for Nazafgarh. The Congress, together with independents, BSP and INLD have 14 seats in Nazafgarh against 12 of the BJP.

And, with the Congress councillor Krishan Murari Jatav being only one in fray for Standing Committee member from City zone, the Congress is expected to win three seats in the Standing Committee while having its allies either as Chairman or Deputy Chairman of the Ward Committee for three zones.

The elections for the posts of Ward Committees for Civil Lines, Karol Bagh, Central, South, City and Pahar Ganj zones will be held on April 24 and those for Ward Committees in West, Rohini, Shahdara (South), Shahdara (North), Rural Narela and Rural Nazafgarh will be held on April 25 at 1100 hours.

Today was the last day for filing nominations for the post of Chairman and Deputy Chairman of Ward Committees as well as for members of the Standing committee.
