New Delhi, Apr 18 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh today opposed the proposal of Maharashtra Chief Minister for allowing construction of intra-state projects at 50 per cent dependability reducing it from 75 per cent.

Talking to newspersons, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy said, Maharashtra Chief Minister Vilas Rao Deshmukh, the head of the Task Force on Irrigation, had recommended reduction of dependability for allowing construction of intra-state projects, which was not acceptable to AP as the concept would allow the upper riparian states to build higher capacity dams.

Answering questions about Tamil Nadu's objection on Palar project, Dr Reddy said his government had written to Tamil Nadu, stating that the project was a very minor one, capable of irrigating 6,000 acres of land and drinking water component, and the project was well within the state's rights.
