Social Security Bill to be tabled in Parliament: Oscar Fernandes

Udupi, Apr 17 (UNI) Union Labour Minister Oscar Fernandes today said the Social Security Bill to protect the interests of labourers in the unorganised sector would be introduced in the current session of Parliament.

He told newspersons here that the Union Government had launched several welfare programmes, including housing, healthcare and scholarship to children of beedi workers.

To a query, the Minister stressed that it was the duty of all district, taluk and block level officials to effectively implement the 15-point programme, aimed at providing succour to the weaker sections of the society.

Earlier, inaugurating a party workers' meeting of the Congress district unit here, Mr Fernandes said it was the prime duty of all party workers to make the people aware of the various welfare schemes introduced by the Congress-led Union Government.

He said the nine weeks time given by the Karnataka High Court for holding the urban local body elections should be best utilised by the workers to strengthen the party.
