SC grants bail to Nanjappa, accused of shielding Telgi
New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) The Supreme Court today granted bail to a former assistant superintendent of Central Jail, Bangalore, arrested for his involvement in the fake stamp paper scam in which Abdul Karim Telgi is the main suspect.
A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Ravindaran ordered the release of Nanjappa, arrested on December 9, 2003.
Nanjappa furnished a bail bond for Rs 50,000 with two solvent sureties for the like sums. The appellant has also been directed to surrender his passport before the special court where he is facing trial.
The applicant is facing allegations of protecting and shielding Telgi during his stay in the Bangalore jail.
