Delhi records season's highest temp at 41 degrees C so far

New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) Delhiites today continued to battle scorching summer heat as the national capital recorded the season's highest temperature so far at 41 degrees celsius, five degrees above normal.

While the mercury soared drastically from yesterday's 39.6 degrees, the minimum also increased by a degree to settle at 25.6 degrees, five degrees above normal.

This is the fourth time in the last five years that the mercury has touched the 40 degrees Celsius and above mark in the month of April. On Sunday, the maximum was recorded at 40 degrees.

The previous occasion when the maximum has risen to 40 degrees C and above was in 2004 and 2006.

The heat forced people of Delhi to remain indoor in the comfort of their homes and offices.

The hot weather over Delhi is likely to intensify in the coming days with the weathermen forecasting the prevailing heat wave conditions over Northwest Indian plains to continue during the next 48 hours.

The met office has forecast a mainly clear sky in Delhi during the next 24 hours. They have also forecast a rise in maximum temperature to 40 degrees C.

Delhi and other parts of Northwest India have been reeling under a severe heat wave for the last six days with the mercury hovering at four to five degrees above normal.
