New Delhi, Apr 17 (UNI) The BJP has urged the Centre to continue the 75 per cent grant to states for the "Education for All" scheme for the next five years and demanded that the scheme cover secondary education.

BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar said the scheme for "Education for All", launched by the NDA government for promotion of primary education, was showing very encouraging results.

Inspite of it, the Centre had decided to reduce the grant from 75 per cent to 50 per cent to the states.

He said the states did not have adequate resources and therefore were not in a position to bear the burden of the scheme. The Centre should reconsider its decision and continue to provide 75 per cent grant to implement the scheme, besides broadening it to secondary education.

Mr Javadekar said the investment in education sector was necessary for the future of the country. The scheme for "Education for all had resulted in the increase of students in primary schools. Besides there was cut in drop-out rates and improvment in in the education standard. If the Centre reduced the grant it would definitely demolish the goal of achieving 'Education for All', he apprehended.
