Kolkata, Apr 17 (UNI) In a landmark judgement, Calcutta High Court today banned begging and unlicensed hawking inside trains and on the platforms.

The bench comprising Justices Pinaki Chandra Ghosh and Biswanath Samaddar ruled that the Railway authorities should take immediate steps to stop begging and unlicensed hawking in the train with immediate effect to ease the sufferings of the daily commuters.

The Court issued the ruling on a Public Interest Litigation(PIL) filed by the lawyer Anjan Bhattacharya.

Mr Bhattacharya said that he moved the petition before the court keeping the daily passengers, who were harrased by such unlicensed hawkers.

Mr Bhattacharya said that it would have been impossible for the daily passengers to restrict the movement and unruly behaviour of the hawkers without the court"s directive.

The division bench, hearing the petitioner at length, held that the nuisance of the unlicensed hawker should be curbed immediately and Railway aurthorities should take all necessary measures for the free movement and comfort of the commuters.
