Respite for Mysoreans from water woes
Mysore, Apr 16 (UNI) Bringing relief to the residents of the city getting ready to face a parched summer with the water level in the Krishna Raja Sagar reservoir dipping, the newly installed emergency pump at the dam started functioning today.
Vani Vilas Water Works officials switched on the second jackwell- cum-emergency pump, which would draw water from the river bed when the water level at KRS went below 72 ft, as water would not flow through the right bank low level canal and varuna canal if the level went below that mark. The two canals supply water to Hongalli pump house to meet the drinking water needs of the city.
The water level at KRS today was 77.11 ft as against the maximum level of 120.80 ft. The level was 90.33 ft the same day last year.
As only one emergency pump of 12 MG capacity was functioning till now, the city had been experiencing a shortage of eight MG whenever the level dipped below 72 ft.
Thanks to the Mysore City Corporation which took up the work at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, there was some respite for Mysoreans from their water woes.
