Jammu Hindu-Muslim couple to move HC to seek safe haven

Moga, Apr 16 (UNI) The controversial Hindu-Muslim couple of Sanjeev Sharma and Sanna Razia, who were arrested by local police here but set free by the court, today said they planned to move Punjab and Haryana High Court for their security as they felt unsafe in Jammu.

Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, son of a retired DSP police of Jammu, and Sanna Razia, a muslim girl from Batindi village of Anantnag district of Jammu and Kashmir, were arrested under section 109 CrPC by local police on Saturday.

They were produced in the Executive Magistrate's court, which ordered their release on personal bonds ruling that both were major and had the liberty to marry. On the court's order, police also returned Rs 7,000 to the couple which it had taken from them.

The local police had arrested the couple on the information from Jammu police that a Hindu boy had 'eloped' with the muslim girl.

However, it was later established that both Sanjeev (28) and Sanna (23) were adults and had got married according to hindu rites in a Jammu temple after a court marriage on March 31, 2005 against the wishes of their parents.

When parents of Sanna, who after converting to hinduism took the name Sonia, continued to harass her and tried to force her to get married again, the couple left Jammu on April 9 this year, and started living at Kokari Kalan village in this district.
