Bharti buys machinery

New Delhi, Apr 16 (UNI) Bharati Shipyard Ltd today said it has bought all the shipyard machinery and equipment of Swan Hunter Shipyard Ltd, the United Kingdom-based shipbuilding yard.

The company will have acceess to the Swan Hunter's fully-automated panel lines, quayside traveling gantry cranes of up to 180T capacity, 30 overhead traveling cranes of 60T capacity, plate bending rolls of 2000 tonne capacity, bending presses, robotic profiling machines and CNC plasma burning equipment.

''The acquisition would help the company to save cost and lead-time, which would have otherwise been spent in procuring the new machineries and equipment,'' a Bharati Shipyard statement said..

It will use the equipment at its existing yards as well as for its greenfield projects.

The company has also taken over the 20,000-tonne lift capacity floating dock of Swan Hunter Shipyard, which will add a lot of value to its existing operations.

Swan Hunter is engaged in shipbuilding, ship conversion and construction of offshore structures. It has capacity to build vessels upto 1,00,000 DWT. During its 130 years of existence, it has built over 1,600 ships of various types, including more than 400 naval vessels.
