WB: 6 people killed in road accident

Midnapore, Apr 16: Six persons were killed and 40 others seriously injured after a Matador turned turtle and fell into a ditch on Salboni-Goaltore road today.

Incidentally, the Matador carrying at least 70 passengers, including a bridal party, was returning from a wedding ceremony from Sijua to Anusole village at about 0730 hrs this morning.

While trying to avoid hiting a motorcycle coming from the opposite direction, the Matador slipped and fell into a nearby ditch.

One of the victims died on the spot while five others, including three women, died in Medinipur Medical College and Hospital.

At least 40 injured people were admitted in Medinipur Medical College and Hospital, of which the condition of five were stated to be critical. The others were given first-aid and released.

The driver was admitted to a nearby Goaltore Hospital in serious condition. Traffic was halted for five hours, following the incident.

The decesed were residents of Nimdanga and Tentuldanga village under Goaltore
