Varanasi jail refuses to accept jailed ex-MLA from Bhadohi jail

Varanasi, Apr 15 (UNI) A day after three youths were arrested from Bhadohi district jail for trying to free imprisoned former MLA Udaybhan Singh alias Doctor, the jail officials here today refused to permit the transfer of the political heavyweight to Varanasi jail.

District Jail Superintedent Dadhiram Maurya here said the former MLA, undergoing life sentence in a triple murder case, was brought from the Bhadohi district jail this afternoon, but they could not permit his transfer to Varanasi jail.

''As per the jail mannual the, Bhadohi DM had not intimated Varanasi DM about the transfer. Besides, no criminals, facing life term, are presently lodged in the jail, which is why, we refused permission to lodge him,'' he said.

The former SP MLA, while facing trial in the triple murder case, was lodged in Varanasi district jail in 2003. But owing to his misconduct, he was transfered to other jail. It is also the prime reason behind officials no to his transfer, sources said.

The pharmacist, who had accompanied the jailed ex-MLA in police custody to the district jail here, claimed that he was told by officials in Bhadohi to get Udaybhan Singh admitted at Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital, but instead, the ex-MLA was brought to the Varanasi district jail.

The former legislator told mediapersons that he was to be brought to BHU hospital for treatment of a renal stone. But unexpectedly, he ended up being taken to the jail.

Three youth were arrested from the Bhadohi district jail for trying to free Udaybhan Singh. The jailed former MLA was brought to the Bhadohi jail from Pratapgarh district jail ten days ago in connection with hearing in another criminal case. The next date of hearing in the case is April 18.
