TDP to intensify stir on Babli project
Hyderabad, Apr 15 (UNI) The opposition Telugu Desam Party (TDP) will intensify agitation on the illegal construction of Babli project by the Maharashtra government and mount pressure on it to stop the project works.
Informing the press at a conference here today, TDP leader and former minister T Devender Goud said the party would organise a 'Mahadharna'' with the participation of one lakh people at Sriram Sagar Project on April 24, as part of its agitation.
He appealed to all the sarpanchas, mandal presidents and ZPTC members from all the six districts in the Telangana region to participate in the Mahadharna.
The TDP would invite leaders of other political parties to take part in the agitation, he said. MPs, MLAs, ZPTC members and leaders of the TDP would take part in the Mahadharna.
The TDP would also file two petitions in the Supreme Court, one on behalf of the farmers and the other from the party on the issue, he added.
The Sri Sagar project would dry up if the Maharastra government went ahead with its construction and lakhs of agricultural lands in Telangana region would be affected, the TDP leader pointed out. He alleged that the Maharastra Government had not stopped the construction of the barrage despite instructions from the Central government.
The TDP would discuss the future course of action after the hearing on the case in Supreme Court which would come up on April 25, he added.
