Subhash Arya elected Leader of house in MCD, Ved Gupta Dy Leader
New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) BJP councillor Subhash Arya was today elected as the Leader of the House in the newly elected Municipal Corporation of Delhi while Mr Ved Gupra was elected tthe deputy leader.
Mr Arya and Mr Gupta were elected as Leader and Deputy leader of the House by the newly-elected Councillors of the BJP in presence of senior party leaders Arun Jaitley, Vijay Goel, Vijay Kumar Malhotra, former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma, Leader of the opposition in the Delhi Legislative Assembly Jagdish Mukhi and Delhi BJP chief Harshvardhan.
Mr Vijendra Gupta proposed the name of Mr Arya which was seconded by Mr Prithvi Raj Sahni and Ms Meera Aggrawal while the name of Mr Ved Gupta was proposed by Ms Arti Mehra.
Adressing the councillors, Mr Jaitley said the victory of the BJP's in MCD polls was important as it takes the BJP recent winning spree to ten states. He said issues like sealing, price rise, corruption and failing law and order was responsible for the defeat of the Congress.
''Now we have to look to defeat the Congress in next year's elections to the Delhi Legislative Assembly,''he said.
Mr Malhotra said the works of all the Councillors in the next one year should pave the way for vistory of the BJP in the Delhi Assembly elections.
''All the Councillors should focus on their conduct. They should do everything by keeping their eyes and ears open,''he said.
Dr Harshavardhan said the real challenge before the councillors now was to make Delhi a world class capital by working as a real public servant.
