Punjab CM urges govt to celebrate martyrs days
Bhaini Sahib, Ludhiana, Apr 15 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today urged the Central Government to observe the anniversaries of the martyrdom of Satguru Ram Singh, Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Udham Singh, Lala Lajpat Rai and other national heroes of India's freedom movement at the national level and suggested that the senior leaders of all the parties should jointly participate in such functions.
Paying rich tributes to Satguru Ram Singh at a state level function organised by the Punjab Government to mark the 150th anniversary of Kuka movement launched by him in 1857, Mr Badal suggested the Central Government to insert the detailed chapters relating to the martyrs in school and college textbooks so that the coming generation could seek inspiration from the great deeds of the martyrs.
Referring to the sacrifices of Kuka Martyrs, Mr Badal said Satguru Ram Singh had created brave revolutionaries who had dared the British rulers and sacrificed their lives, even being flown from cannons to ensure the freedom of the nation.
The Chief Minister announced that suitable memorials of Namdhari martyrs would be set up at all the concerned places where they had made the sacrifices and said two such memorials, one at Ludhiana and other at Amritsar, had already been set up.
On this occasion, Mr Badal released a set of publications published by the Information&Pubic Relations Department regarding the Kuka Movement and presented one set to Satguru Jagjit Singh.
Interacting with mediapersons, Mr Badal said his government was committed to fulfil all the promises and had earmarked funds amounting to Rs 800 crore to implement the subsidised Atta&Dal scheme in the state and for this purpose, process to identify the beneficiaries had already been started. He added that his government main focus was on the development of the state to regain the number one position in the country.
Answering a question regarding the inquiry into the City Center Scam of Ludhiana, Mr Badal reiterated that the inquiry was being pursued as per law and there was no vendetta against any politician and that the law of the state would take its own course.
