New Mining policy in monsoon session of Parliament: Minister

Visakhapatnam, Apr 15 (UNI) Union Minister of State for Mines and Geology T Subbarami Reddy today said the new mining policy would be announced during the monsoon session of Parliament.

Talking to mediapersons here, he said the final draft of the new mining policy would be ready by next month.

There was a need to create awareness among the public on environmental issues linked to mining, he said.

Mr Reddy asked the district administration officials, Visakhapatnam Urban Development Chairman P S N Raju, Greater Visakha Municipal Corporation Commissioner M K Meena to take the initiative of identifying peole residing in huts and provide them with pucca houses under the JNNURAM scheme this year.

On the reported objections raised by the Indian Navy for allowing 24 hours landing at the airport here, he said the Defence Ministry would be prevailed upon to accord clearance.
