Nasirn struggled for women's welfare: Minister
Bhopal, Apr 15 (UNI) Madhya Pradesh Culture Minister Lakshmikant Sharma today said Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasrin, who has struggled for the welfare of women, has received worldwide recognition.
Mr Sharma, while addressing a programme on Taslima's literary works at Bharat Bhavan here, said Taslima's writings inspired women to struggle against orthodox traditions and the evils of society.
He pointed out that women were regarded as 'shakti (power)' in India.
Thinker and author Anil Madhav Dave chaired the programme.
Mr Dave said someone who struggled against the evils of society always got support from civil society.
He remembered Mahatma Gandhi's struggle against racism in South Africa and Veer Sarwarkar's freedom struggle. He hoped that Pakistan, Bangladesh and India would jointly fight problems in future.
Explaining about the situation of women in Bangladesh, Nasrin said her struggle would continue until women got equal status in society.
She said her struggle had been against fundamentalists and orthodox people of Bangladesh.
Nasrin also read out some of her poems to audience.
Bharat Bhavan Trustee Board Chairman Daya Prakash Sinha said women in India had been regarded in three forms of Saraswati, Lakshmi and Durga.
He said he saw the forms of Durga and Saraswati in Nasrin.
Bharat Bhavan Trustee Secretary Rameshwar Mishra said Nasrin had got published more than 40 books so far.
