Cong to demand CBI probe into Transport subsidy scam

Kohima, Apr 15 (UNI) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) will urge Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to initiate a CBI probe into the alleged Transport subsidy scandal in Nagaland.

Party sources today said a delegation of Opposition Congress Members of CLP, led by Leader of Opposition I Imkong, has left for New Delhi yesterday to meet Prime Minister and Union Commerce Minister Kamal Nath and apprise them of the Transport subsidy scandal and will press their demand for CBI probe into it.

The Congress raised the matter, along with the alleged anomalies in awarding contract for the construction of 9th Indian Reserve Battalion headquarters at Saijan under Peren district, in the House during the last Budget Session. They demanded that either a Joint Parliamentary Probe or a probe by the CBI and State Vigilance department should be conducted into both the scandals.

The Congress had also made it clear that if the Government failed to concede to its demand, it would not hesitate to drag the matter out of the state.

The Opposition also submitted a memorandum to the Nagaland Governor demanding probes in the scandals.

As the ruling Democratic Alliance of Nagaland (DAN) Government rejected the demand of the Opposition, the delegation will now take the same memorandum to both the Prime Minister and the Union Minister of Commerce, sources said.
