Cong. expresses deep concern over safety of Indians in Uganda

New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) The Congress today expressed deep concern at the safety of Indian citizens in Uganda and called upon the government to take urgent steps to protect the lives of Indian expatriates.

Describing as ''unfortunate and regrettable'' Thursday's incident in Kampala in which an Indian national was stoned to death in racial riots directed against the Indian community, the party called upon the government to ensure that such incidents did not happen again.

It also condoled the death of the Indian national, Devang Rawal, of Ahmedabad, who was killed by rioters.

''This is an unfortunate and regrettable incident and the Indian National Congress calls upon the government to take urgent and emergent steps to protect the lives of Indian expatriates, particularly in Uganda, and ensure that these incidents do not happen again,'' a statement issued by the Party said.
