BIS to host Intl Electrotechnical Commission meet

New Delhi, Apr 15: Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), the National Standards body of India, will host the meetings of International Electrotechnical Commission's sub committees for high voltage switchgear and controlgear starting here from tomorrow till April 19.

Forty-five delegates from 14 countries are expected to participate and formulate international standards (IEC) on high voltage switchgears and controlgears.

The meetings will be supported by ABB, Areva, Bharat Heavy Electricals, NTPC Ltd, National Hydro Power Corporation, PowerGrid Corporation, Reliance Energy, Siemens, Tata Power and Crompton Greaves.

International Electrotechnical Commission serves as a basis for national standardisation and references when drafting international tenders and contracts.

The domestic switchgear and controlgear industry is producing, supplying and exporting a wide variety of items needed by the global industrial and power sector. It is growing at 20 per cent annually. This is the first time that IEC meetings on high voltage switchgear is being held in India.
