Ban on mechanised boats for fishing imposed in AP

Machilipatnam, Apr 15 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Fisheries Department today imposed a ban on mechanised boats venturing into the sea for fishing from today.

Official sources here said the 45-day ban, in force till the end of next month, was meant to preserve the sea wealth.

About 1,500 mechanised boats would not venture into the high seas following the ban.

Meanwhile, livelihood of nearly 1.5 lakh fishermen and those involved in the activities would be affected during the ban period.

Krishna District Fibre Boats Welfare Association president Balagam Subramanyam, urged the district authorities to provide 25 kg of rice and Rs 500 to the affected fishermen families, as was being given by the administration in East and West Godavari, Visakhapatnam, Srikakulam and Nellore districts.
