APGENCO targets 8,963 mw power generation in 11th plan
Hyderabad, Apr 15 (UNI) With a target to generate 8,963 mw power, the Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corporation (APGENCO) will set up thermal, hydro and gas-based power projects at a cost of Rs 35,010 crore in the 11th plan, its Managing Director Ajay Jain said today.
Speaking to newspersons here, he said the corporation would take up thermal power projects with 4,730 mw capacity at an estimated cost of Rs 21,286 crore, while gas-based and hydro projects with a capacity of 2,100 MW and 2,133 mw would be established at a cost of Rs 5,520 crore and 8,204 crore respectively, during the 11th plan in the state.
Stating that the APGENCO would become a 15,724 mw company by the end of 11th plan, he said three 210 mw, five 500 mw and two 800 mw thermal units were already under construction to add 47,30 mw of power. Eight hydro projects with a total capacity of 21,33 mw were under construction to achieve the target in the 11th five year plan.
Mr Jain said the excellent performance for the last three years had not only helped the corporation to wipe off all the accumulated Rs 256 crore losses but also enabled it to break-even financially by earning a net profit of Rs 145 crore in 2006-07.
The turnover of APGENCO for 2006-07 was Rs 4,333 crore, he said it had achieved the highest generation of 31,402 MU in 2006, surpassing the previous high of 29,630 MU achieved in 1999-2000.
He said APGENCO had diversified its activities the field of exploration of coal at Tadicharla, Penagadapa, Punukala Cilka and Anisettipalli of Singareni Colleries Coal Ltd and consultancy services.
