All-party meet on Cauvery begins in Tamil Nadu
Chennai, Apr 15: The All Party meeting convened by the Tamil Nadu government, to discuss the draft review petition prepared by the State to be filed before the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal, began here this morning.
The meeting held at the State Secretariat was chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi and leaders of various political parties, including the main opposition AIADMK.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr Karunanidhi said the meeting was convened to discuss the draft petition in detail and finalise the review petition to be filed before the Tribunal.
The copies of the draft review petition were circulated to the representatives of various political parties at the meeting, enabling them to express their views to be incorporated in the review petition.
The government had prepared the draft petition after consulting legal and technical experts to seek guidelines and explanations under Section 5(2) of the Inter-State River Water Disputes Act.
The decision to file the review petition before the tribunal was taken in accordance with the resolution adopted at the all-party meeting convened by the State government on February 19.
