All party meet decides to file review petition before CWDT
Chennai, Apr 15 (UNI) An all party meeting convened by the Tamil Nadu Government today decided to file a review petition before the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal (CWDT), while keeping its options open on moving the Supreme Court on the vexed issue.
The meeting, chaired by Chief Minister M Karunanidhi, as a first step decided to file the review petition before the tribunal stressing the rights and requirements of the state.
It was also decided that if necessary, the government would also move the Supreme Court to protect the interests of the farmers.
The resolution said Karnataka had misunderstood that the final award of the Tribunal favoured Tamil Nadu and had been taking steps to move the Supreme Court to get a stay and also to prevent its notification in the Government Gazette.
However, the main Opposition AIADMK expressed reservation over the issue and said the government should move the apex court.
Thanking the leaders of various political parties for patiently attending the meeting and expressing their views, Mr Karunanidhi said his government would not take any unilateral decision and assured that the government would take all political parties into confidence on the issue in future also.
Though, the state was tolerating the inimical acts of Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh that jeoparadise the interests of Tamil Nadu, he appealed to all political parties to remain united and join hands with the government in protecting the interests of the state and its farmers in times of crisis.
