73 new primary health centres in Bihar: Minister

Darbhanga, Apr 15 (UNI) The Bihar government has decided to open 73 new primary health centres and 40 additional primary health centres in Darbhanga district to provide better health care facilities for the people living in far-flung areas.

State Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh, who is also incharge of Darbhanga district here today, said all the new primary health centres with the capacity of six seats each, would cover the population of 30,000 while additional primary health centres would cater to the needs of 5,000 people.

Mr Singh, who attended the district-level health committee, said that the state government had cleared a proposal to open new health centres on the basis of new criteria which would make the lower rung of health care facilities better.

He said that the doctors would be appointed on contractual basis to meet the growing needs of trained medical personnel in new primary and additional primary health centres.

Doctors appointed on contractual basis would have to dicharge their duties under the service conditions applicable to them, he added.
