6 people killed, 40 injured in a road accident

Midnapur, Apr 15 (UNI) At least six persons were killed and 40 others seriously injured when a matador, carrying at least 70 passengers turned turtle, and fell in a ditch on Salboni Goaltore Road near Ranijur forest under Salboni block this morning.

Police said the matador, carrying a marriage party, was returning from a wedding ceremony from Sijua to Anusole village under Goaltore police station area early this morning.

While trying to save a motor cycle coming from the opposite direction of the road, the matador fell into a nearby ditch.

Sanatan Murmu (12) died on the spot and other five persons, including three women, Astami Murmu (29), Pallabi Handa (17), Sonali Murmu (15), Srimati Murmu (65) and Kandan Hansda (40) died in Midnapur Medical College&Hospital.

Injured 40 people were admitted in Midnapur Medical College&Hospital. Their conditions were stated to be critical.

Others injured were given first aid and released. The driver of the matador was admitted in nearby Goaltore Hospital in serious condition.

The traffic was closed for five hours following the incident.

The deceased were inhabitants of Nimdanga and Tentuldanga village under Goaltore police station.
