12 people killed in accidents in Kanrataka

Mysore, Apr 15 (UNI) Twelve people, including five women and a child, were killed and 17 others injured in two road accidents in Karnataka today.

Police said a collision between a private bus and a Sumo van at Belekere Gate near Channapatna on the Bangalore-Mysore highway left nine people killed. While seven died on the spot, two who suffered head injuries breathed their last at NIMHANS in Bangalore.

Police said the tragedy occurred when the van driver tried to avoid a dog on the road, resulting in a collision with the bus coming from the opposite direction.

In another accident, three college students riding on a motor cycle were killed on the spot, when a speeding bus hit them on the national highway near Nelamangala in Bangalore rural district.

The deceased were identified as Rahim, Saddam and Shabbir, police said.
