'Kisan Chetana Dindi' flagged off from Wardha
Nagpur, Apr 14 (UNI) The 'Kisan Chetana Dindi,' a rally organised by the Department of Animal Husbandary, Dairy Development and Fisheries of the State government, to encourage farmers to take up supplementary occupations, was flagged off from Wardha in the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra today.
Maharashtra Minister for Animal Husbandary, Dairy Development and Fisheries Anees Ahmed said the rally would cover a distance of 700 kms and cover 40 villages in the six districts in Vidarbha, most affected by farmers' suicides, namely Wardha, Yavatmal, Amravati, Akola, Buldhana and Washim.
The rally would create awareness about the benefits of the relief packages announced by the State government and the Prime Minister for the six districts, and to motivate farmers to take up subsidiary occupations like dairying, poultry, sheep and goat rearing and fisheries, Mr Ahmed said.
The rally consists of floats giving information about schemes of various departments and undertakings of the State government, he said.
Along the way, documentaries on success stories of farmers would be screened and subsidy cheques would be handed over to the beneficiaries of various schemes that are part of the relief packages, like calf rearing, purchase of milch animals and fisheries development, he said.
The 'Kisan Chetana Dindi' would conclude at Washim on April 21, he added.
