IAF Camp at Kalina to be operational in three years

Mumbai, Apr 14 (UNI) Outgoing Air Marshal Pramod Kumar Mehra, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, South Western Air Command (SWAC), today said the under construction Air Force camp at Kalina, a western suburb, Mumbai will be fully operational in the next three years.

Addressing IAF personnel at the Cotton Green Air Station here, Mr Mehra said the administrative facilities as well as work environment will have a quantum improvement at the new Kalina camp as compared to the present restraints.

Appreciating the air warriors, he said ''Even in the face of restraints in administrative facilities, you at the Mumbai Air Station has remained agile and active in your respective duties.'' Later, the Air Marshal took the Guard of Honour and had an interaction with IAF personnel at the station.

Mr Mehra was commissioned in the IAF in 1965 after graduating from the National Defence Academy (NDA). His first operational squadron was at Hasimara, which he joined after completion of training on Vampire aircraft at Pune.

He took part in the 1971 Indo-Pak conflict. He has since flown a number of aircraft and has over 5500 hours of flying experience.

Mr Mehra has been decorated with the Vayu Seva Medal in 1989, the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal in 2005 and the Param Vishist Seva Medal in 2007.
