FM lays foundation stone for bridge across Kottakarai river

Sanaveli, Tamil Nadu, Apr 14 (UNI) Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram today laid the foundation stone for a bridge across the Kottakarai river here in the presence of Union Shipping and Road Transport Minister T R Baalu.

The bridge, estimated at Rs 12.40 crore would be constructed on the National Highway 210, between Tiruchirapalli and Ramanathapuram.

It may be recalled that it was here that a bus carrying 36 people capsized on November 25, 2005, when the causeway across the river collapsed in the floods.

Tamil Nadu Ministers S P Thangavelan (Housing) and M P Saminathan (Highways) were also present during the foundation stone laying ceremony.
