Scrap Act that demands menstrual cycle information: Davkhare
Mumbai, Apr 13 (UNI) Maharashtra Legislative Council Deputy Chairman Vasant Davkhare today directed the State Government to annul the Act requiring female bureaucrats to provide information about their menstrual cycle.
The directions were given following the point of propriety raised by Usha Darade (NCP) expressing concern over newspaper reports that female bureaucrats were asked to provide such details.
She was supported by Fauzia Khan, Manda Mhatre (NCP) and Sudha Joshi (Cong). BJP leader Nitin Gadkari said it was wrong to demand such details from female bureaucrats.
Maharashtra Health Minister Vimal Mundada admitted it was not proper to demand such details and added that the Government will take cognisance of the point of propriety.
However, this did not satisfy the legislators from both the sides following which Mr Davkhare gave the directions.
In his directions, he said asking for such details was an insult to womanhood and it should never happen. He asked the Government to convey the feelings to the Centre.
