Kolkata, Apr 13 (UNI) Trinamool Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee today reiterated that the West Bengal Government must return land to unwilling farmers in Singur for restoration of peace in the area.

''We want peace in Bengal. The violence at Singur and Nandigram should be stopped and the Government should return the forcibly acquired land to the unwilling farmers,'' she said on the sidelines of a programme organised by the Krishi Jami Raksha Committee while observing ''condemnation day'' against the Nandigram firing.

She alleged that violence in Nandigram was still continuing and the Government was protecting the 'culprits'.

Taking a dig at the Congress-led UPA government for its failure to take action following the 'mass killing' in Nandigram, Ms Banerjee said the incident deserved Central intervention since the victims were mostly women and children and those belonging to the minority community.

The programme was mainly attended by anti-CPI(M) forces, including the Congress.
