'Rang De..','Lage Raho..','Omkara' lead nominations at IIFA
New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) After dominating nomination lists, as well as that of the winners on the domestic awards circuit, 'Rang De Basanti', 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' and 'Omkara' are all set to carry forward the flame of India's "new age cinema" on the International awards scene.
Having won the bulk of awards at popular awards like the Screen Awards, Filmfare awards, the Stardust awards, the Sansui awards and the Zee Cine awards, these new age films seem all set to hog the limelight at the IIFA awards, considered the ultimate barometer for a film's popularity among Indians globally.
Heading the nominations list for this year's edition of the IIFA awards, to be held in Yorkshire, is Rakeysh Mehra's 'Rang De Basanti' with a whopping 15 nominations followed by Vishal Bhardwaj's 'Omkara' and Raj Kumar Hirani's 'Lage Raho MunnaBhai' with 11 and 10 nominations each.
While 'Rang De Basanti' has bagged nominations in the Best Film, Best Direction, Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actress, Best Music, Best Dialogue, Best Screenplay and Best Editing, 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' has won nominations in the Best Film, Best Direction, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actor, Best Villian, Best Dialogue and Best Screenplay.
'Omkara' is in fray in the Best Film, Best Direction, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Supporting Actress, Best Villian, Best Story, Best Music, Best Lyrics, Best Female Playback Singer, Best Story, Best Dialogue and Best Screenplay.
Competing in the Best film category at the IIFA awards, to be held in June, are 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', 'Rang De Basanti', 'Omkara', 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', 'Vivah', 'Krrish' and 'Dhoom 2'.
In the fray for the Best Actor are Shah Rukh Khan for 'Don', Hrithik Roshan for 'Krrish', Sanjay Dutt for 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', Ajay Devgan for 'Omkara' and Aamir Khan for 'Rang De Basanti'.
Interestingly, Hrithik Roshan has also been nominated for Best Villian for his portrayl in 'Dhoom 2'. He figures in the list along with Emraan Hashmi for 'Gangster', Boman Irani for 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', Saif Ali Khan for 'Omkara' and John Abraham for 'Zinda' The nominees for the Best Actress category include Aishwarya Rai in 'Dhoom 2', Kajol in 'Fanaa', Kangana Ranaut for 'Gangster', Rani Mukherji for 'Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna', Vidya Balan in 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' and Kareena Kapoor for 'Omkara'.
Interestingly, Amitabh Bachchan and his son Abhishek Bachchan will compete in the Best Performance in a Supporting Role category for their roles in 'KANK'. The other nominees in the category are Arshad Warsi for 'Lage Raho Munnabhai', Kunal Kapoor and Atul Kulkarni for 'Rang De Basanti'.
In the fray for the award in the Best Supporting Actress category are Bipasha Basu for 'Dhoom 2', Rekha for 'Krrish', Konkona Sensharma for 'Omkara', Kirron Kher and Soha Ali Khan Pataudi for 'Rang De Basanti'.
Among those nominated in the Best Comedian category for their brilliance in tickling the funny bone among the cinegoers are Chunkey Pandey in 'Apna Sapna Money Money', Uday Chopra for 'Dhoom 2', Tusshar Kapoor for 'Golmaal - Fun Unlimited', Paresh Rawal for 'Phir Hera Pheri' and Sharman Joshi for 'Rang De Basanti'.
