'Ramsethu' was built with shoal stones: Swamy
Chennai, Apr 13: Janata Party President Subramanian Swamy today said new evidence has been sent to President A P J Abdul Kalam by a department of the Union government which led to the conclusion that the 'Ramsethu' was not a natural geological formation.
Addressing a press conference here, he said the new evidence establishes the fact that the 'Rama Sethu' bridge was a construction for which shoal stones were placed to create a causeway. It had functioned as a bridge atleast till 1480 AD as affirmed by a manual produced by Tamil Nadu as far back as in 1803.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had written a foreword while publishing a reprint of it, Dr Swamy claimed.
Dr Swamy said therefore, the Sethusamudram Canal Project should be amended so that the 'Rama Sethu' was not touched.
He said the Janata Party would hold a public meeting in association with the BJP. at Madurai on April 16 to 'enlighten' the people on this fact, as announced earlier.
