Proposals invited for Rajiv Sadbhawana Award

New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) The Advisory Committee for the Rajiv Gandhi National Sadbhawana Award, has invited proposals from distinguished individuals and associations for the award to be given in recognition of outstanding contribution to the cause of national "sadbhawana (goodwill)" on the former Prime Minister berth anniversary on August 20.

The Award, carrying a citation and cash award of Rs 2.5 lakhs, has been instituted to commemorate the lasting contribution made by late Prime Minister to prmote peace and communal harmony and fight against violence and terrorism.

The Rajiv Gandhi Sadbhawana Award would be given either to persons or institutions who have made outstanding contribution to promote communal harmony and to fight against terrorism and violence in the year and two years immediately preceding it, according to Mr Moti Lal Vora, Member Secretary, Advisory Committee for the Award.

The proposals have to be sent in the prescribed pro forma which may be obtained from the organisation's office in the Jawahar Bhawan on Dr Rajendra Prasad Road, New Delhi latest by June 30, he said in a release here.

The Award has so far been conferred on renowned social worker Mother Tresa, Shehnai Maestro Bismillah Khan, former Union Minister Sunil Dutt, freedom fighter Mohd Yunus, former Asom CM Hiteshwar Sakia, famous Bollywood playback singer Lata Mangeshkar, Bollywood Star Dilip Kumar, art historian Kpila Vatsyayan and former President K R Narayanan.
