Priyanka to campaign in Amethi for Congress

Lucknow, Apr 13: AICC president Sonia Gandhi's daughter Priyanka Vadra Gandhi today reached Amethi on a two-day visit to take charge of party's election campaigning in the constituency ahead of assembly elections there on April 28.

This is Priyanka's first visit to Amethi, her brother Rahul's parliamentary constituency, after elections were announced in Uttar Pradesh.

Priyanka would interact with party workers for two days before she officially commences campaigning for the Congress candidates.

Congress sources said here that she would campaign along with Rahul Gandhi after April 24. The elections in Amethi are due in phase V on April 28.

The Congress has two asembly seats, Amethi and Jagdishpur, under the larger Amethi parliamentary constituency. The Tiloi, Salon and Gauriganj seats are with Opposition parties.

While Amethi and Jagdishpur fall under the Sultanpur district, Tiloi, Salon and Gauriganj come under the Rae Bareli district.

Priyanka is one of the 40 star Congress campaigners, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, who would campaign for party candidates. But Priyanka would restrict herself to Rae Bareli and Amethi during electioneering.
