Policeman commits suicide in police station

Barrackpore, Apr 13 (UNI) A policeman who allegedly tried to commit suicide last night here at Latbagan in North 24 Parganas, died here this morning, police sources said.

A 57-year-old constable, Netai Chandra Bhattacharjee, who was attached to DIG Armed Police cell, died in local hospital today after consuming acid midnight last night.

He was admitted to the hospital early today by fellow policemen as he was found ill during his duty last night.

Mr Bhattacharjee, a resident of Daulatpur under Maheshtala police station area in North 24 Parganas, joined his night duty as usual, police said.

Police registered an unnatural death case with Titagarh Police station and the body was sent for postmortem.

Ten days back Assistant Sub-Inspector of Armed Force, Suniti Chattoraj, also suspectedly committed suicide by hanging.
