Plant opened to treat fly-infested mangoes
Chittoor, Apr 13 (UNI) The export of mangoes from Tirupati to Japan brightened with the opening of a Vapour Heat Treatment (VHT) plant at Rangampet in Puthlapattu mandal near here.
The opening of the plant followed the decision of the Japanese Government to lift a 20-year-long ban on the export of Indian mangoes.
District Collector S S Rawath, who inaugurated the plant yesterday, said the ban was imposed due to the presence of 'fruit fly' in mangoes.
The ban was lifted on the condition that the fruits would be subjected to treatment at VHT, he added.
