No CPI(M) agenda on issue-based support: Basu

Kolkata, Apr 13: Though unhappy with 'non implementation' of the Common Minimum Programme, veteran CPI(M) leader Jyoti Basu today rejected the CPI's proposal for a truncated Left support to the UPA government and said his party did not have any such proposal. "I have heard that they (CPI) have raised the proposal for extending issue-based support... but our recently held Polit Bureau and Central Committee meeting did not have such an agenda, nor have we discussed it," he told reporters after attending the CPI(M) State Secretariat meeting.

Mr Basu's remarks came a few days after CPI General Secretary A B Bardhan suggested that the four Left parties review the present form of blanket support being extended to the Congress-led government at the Centre and restrict it only to issues.

However, expressing displeasure with the 'non implementation' of CMP, the nonagenarian leader said the Left parties would now raise the issue in Parliament so that the people realised what really the government was up to.

"They are not going by the CMP. We have decided to speak out on the issue in Parliament so that the people can understand what they are doing and not doing," he said.
