NHRO urges to avoid dam construction

Itanagar, Apr 13 (UNI) The Nefa Indigenous Human Rights Organisation (NHRO) has said that the power corporations should avoid constructing mega upstream dams in a geologically unstable region considering the plight of the people residing downstream.

Given the seismic sensitivity of Arunachal Pradesh, any mega dam constructed in the state will have the potential to destroy lives and property worth thousands of crores, in the event of a major earthquake, the organisation added.

The NHRO stressed on the urgent need for the parties concerned to use their wisdom before execution of MoUs and also to respect the fundamental rights to life and property of citizens residing downstream.
