J'khand govt gears up for adequate water supply
Ranchi, Apr 13 (UNI) The Jharkhand government has initiated certain steps to provide adequate drinking water throughout state during summer.
State Water Resources department principal secretary A K Basu said here today that control rooms were being established in every district headquarters to provide uninterrupted water supply.
The executive engineers of the department would monitor the functioning of those control rooms, Mr Basu said.
Mr Basu said funds have been alloted for the maintenance of hand- pumps to the concerned districts adding that stern action would be taken against the officials found guilty in implementing the instructions in this regard.
He said government had planned to incur Rs 6000 lakhs for various water supply schemes targetted to be completed in 2007-08.
Official sources said water starved areas included Palamu, Dhanbad, East and West Singhbhum, Jamtara, Hazaribagh and Chatra districts.
