India refuses to comment on reports indicating problems in nuke deal

New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) India today refused to comment on reports quoting senior Bush administration officials that the Indo-US nuclear deal was in jeopardy, due to New Delhi's ''greed.'' An External affairs Ministry spokesperson today said that he had only seen ''some minor reports'' about the nuclear deal.

''Until I see something in substance, it will be difficult for me to comment in substance. Our position on the entire matter has been explained to you on several occasions,'' he added.

The US Today quoted US Under Secretary of State Nicholas Burns as acknowledging that three rounds of talks with India have produced little. ''I don't question India's goodwill. But there is a fair degree of frustration in Washington that the Indian government has not engaged seriously enough or quickly enough with both the United States and the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency),'' the report quoted him as saying.

The report also cited two senior Bush administration officials as saying India's demands could torpedo an agreement. ''The two asked not to be named to avoid jeopardising the talks, which are to resume later this month,'' the daily said.
