Import of 800 CC motorbikes permitted

New Delhi, Apr 13 (UNI) To the delight of superbike lovers, the Government today permitted import of motorcycles of engine capacity of 800 cc and above subject to a minimal of conditions.

Ministry of Commerce in a press note listed two such conditions.

First the imported motorcycle should meet EuroIII emissions norms.

And secondly, in place of homologation, at the time of import, an importer has to submit two types of certificates; a) Type Approval Certificate / COP of an international accredited agency from the country of origin along with notorised English translation of the certificate.

b) The Type Approval Certificate has to state that the vehicle complies with all the ECE regulations for the complete vehicle.

These conditiobns are applicable to individuals, companies and OEMs who have manufacturing and service network in India.

The notification in this regard was issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) under Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
