Jaipur, Apr 13 (UNI) The Government would shortly minimise involvement of as many as 30 agencies to ensure minimum level for export clearances for agricultural products, Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) said today.

At present, agri exporters under current statutes are required to obtain clearances from over 30 agencies, which delay their export transactions.

''If our agri exports have to rise with farmers better linkages in them, the number of these agencies would have to come down to bear minimum for which necessary ground work is in the offing,'' APEDA Chairman K S Money said, while inaugurating a Assocham-organised-conference here on ''Linking Farmers to Superstores''.

He added that export related cold storages would also be set up in large numbers near airports and seaports to reduce export transactional costs for higher returns for the farmers.

Currently India has 4,753 cold storages facilities across the country with their capacities of about 20 million tonnes.

About 80 per cent cold storages have been storing potatoes in them and remaining 20 per cent are utilised for other agri products.

The APEDA Chairman also said that several other measures were being initiated by his agency to fetch better prices for farmers yields.

National Institute of Agricultural Marketing Director General A Bhatnagar said that a concept of outsourcing in cold storages facilities was also being developed with private sector participation.

He also emphasised that in order to improve horticulture production, some income support to farm households is also necessary.

Assocham Secretary General D S Rawat, its expert committee chairman Pradeep Wig, and Rajasthan Chamber of Commerce Secretary General K L Jain also participated in the conference.
