Foreign tourists inflow in Mussoorie up by 49.67pc

Dehradun, Apr 13: Mussoorie, one of the prominent tourist spots in Uttarakhand has witnessed an increase of 49.67 per cent in the arrival of foreign visitors during 2006.

According to Uttarakhand Tourism data, last year, 5,309 foreigners visited the Quen of hills compared to 3547 in 2005, and 2683 in 2003.

One of the legendary resident of this hill station, writer Ruskin Bond says, ''Foreign tourists mostly come here for short visits, from two weeks to six months. Most of them visit the hill station to beat the heat and dust of the metro cities.'' Meanwhile, as far as domestic tourist is concerned there is no significant increase, nevertheless the numbers of local tourists are on a rise.

Last year, 20,77,163 domestic tourists visited the Queen of the Hills. In 2005, the numbers were 20,63,335 and in 2004 it was 20,43,635.

Mussoorie offers a breathtaking view of the Himalayan snow ranges to the north-east and the Doon Valley, Roorkee, Saharanpur and Haridwar to the South, creating a near perfect environment for the tourists.

The foreign tourists get attracted by the lifestyle, beauty, atmosphere and facilities of this destination.
